Estelle SO is a visual artist who explores Korean traditional aesthetics as a system of thought rather than a set of inherited forms.
Her work focuses on three major structures of Korean traditional painting: chaekgado (books and the organisation of knowledge), irworobongdo (cosmic order and the structure of the world), and munjado (language and symbolic systems). She interprets these not as images to be reproduced, but as devices that organise perception, space, and meaning.
Through principles such as balance, repetition, and emptiness, she develops works conceived as visual constructions, where the image becomes a system rather than a representation.
Her works unfold across a diversity of formats and materials, ranging from traditional media to contemporary supports such as digital, aluminium, and acrylic, inviting a spatial reading where image, rhythm, and narrative intersect.
Her practice extends from painting to world-building, through art direction and transmission, forming a unified approach that connects making, interpretation, and dissemination.
Within this framework, tradition is not treated as a fixed reference, but as an active structure capable of being reconfigured in the present.
TaleVerse extends this approach by exploring how these symbolic systems can be transformed into contemporary visual and narrative worlds.
